Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik | BOOK REVIEW

Book : Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
Genre : Fantasy
Pages: 480
My rating : ⭐⭐⭐.5

I had my eyes on this book for a long time and finally finished it . Maybe my expectations were a little too high or they were misplaced. If I would've had a slight inkling that this book was a slow paced fantasy then I wouldn't have picked it up. I read a lot of fantasy books and I like fast paced books.

I have given this book 3.5 stars because it's not bad, it's just not what I like to read. So i'll try to be neutral and give you the highlights of this book so that you decide for yourself .

The plot is set in the backdrop of Russia with rich Polish folklore ; this gave the book very similar feels to the 'Winternight' trilogy. There are a lot of side characters but two very strong female protagonists. I especially liked their character development , their portrayal of being feminine yet taking over male dominated roles gave a contemporary aspect to the storyline .

The pace of the plot varies throughout the book , though compared to other books it's fairly slow paced. The writing style is good and it slowly grew on me. The story became predictable once I read half the book .

The story seemed a bit dragged at times and could've been a little short. I read it somewhere that the novel is loosely based on the tale of Rumpelstiltskin, so that bit was certainly covered well throughout the book.
I won't recommend this book to readers who want fast paced plot or are trying the genre of Fantasy for the first time. But people who like slow paced books can give this book a try.
