The 6 Most Underrated Books that we have read
The 6 most Underrated Books
Have you ever come across random
books that completely take your breath away that you almost want to become
their unofficial ambassador to promote them? So, we’ve compiled a list of books
that we absolutely love and want to share it with everyone.
1. I Remember
You By Yrsa Sigurdardottir
This is one of the best mystery book
that I’ve probably read in my whole life. The story is based on three friends
who move to a remote island near Iceland. Life in a torn old forgotten town is
hard on the friendship of these people but they take a worse turn when they
realize they’re not alone on the island; especially someone who is not alive.
Meanwhile, there is an investigation in the city involving a missing child, a
desecrated school and a few supernatural instances.
This is the first book that I read
of this Icelandic author and I’ve never been gladder for my decision. Yrsa's
writing is smooth, precise and it completely enthralls you into the story. This
book ended my 2 year book reading slump, it’s that mind-blowing.
2. Last
Rituals by Yrsa Sigurdardottir
Another book by the same author
which in my opinion is brilliantly written. This is a mystery book, involving
witchcraft. There is a student murdered in the university and yet the most
shocking part is the strange symbols carved on the body. A detective is hired
by the family and the secrets of the students past including the dark past of
his family are revealed. This book will take you on a journey of not only
solving a murder but also educating you about the history of witchcraft.
This book is a little slow paced
than the first book mentioned above. But, in my opinion Yrsa’s story telling
ability lies on carefully and gradually building a plot. So even if you feel
that the story is getting a little slow, you should stick around for the ending
because they always end with a bang.
The author has quite a few other
stellar books as well like “Why did you Lie?” , “The Silence of the Sea” and “My
Soul to take”.
3. The Forest
Of Wool & Steel By Natsu Miyashita
This is the most serious book out
of all the books mentioned in this post. It is based on the life journey of a
boy Tomura, who finds his calling in life in tuning a piano. This book perfectly
describes the struggles of finding your career path in life and the effort it
takes to excel in it.
The story of Tomura could be the
story of anyone, the endless drive to pursue your dreams and passion is similar
to everyone’s life. And, the author portrays the struggle of life in this book
very vividly and thoroughly. One of the reasons why I loved this book as much
as I did was because I was struggling in my own career path at the time, and
this book resonated with me.
4. I’ll Give
You The Sun By Jandy Nelson
This is one of the most wholesome
happy YA book that I whole-heartedly love. If you have a creative, artistic
soul, you’ll love this book. The story is based on the two twins Noah and Jude,
at first they are halves of each other’s souls but the reality changes as soon
as they grow up. While Noah lives his life in his drawings, Jude finds an
unconventional mentor. But their lives are irrevocably changed when they find
the truth about their mother’s death.
I’ve never ever quoted a book as
much as I did this one. This book is full of emotions, vivid imagery and quotes
that will fill your heart with love.
5. The Simple
Wild By K. A. Tucker
TSW is a
romance novel that will take you on a beautiful adventure ride to Alaska. Calla
lives in Toronto with her mother while being estranged from her father since
she was 2 years old. After hearing of her father’s ill health, calla decides to
move to Alaska to meet a man who is her father but more or less a stranger. On
this journey, she makes quite a few friends and enemies (aka Jonah). The relationship
or lack thereof between these two people (Calla and Jonah) is brilliant, their
banter made me laugh throughout the book.
Reading this
books synopsis n Goodreads, you might decide it’s a typical romance book but
honestly it’s more than that. For Mountain lovers like me, this book was an
absolute delight. The beauty of Alaska described in this book made me wants to
pack my bags and go on an adventure. And, for people who love this book there
is good news, this book also has a second part!!
6. What The
Wind Knows By Amy Harmon
There is absolutely no favorites list of mine without a Historical Fiction book. What the wind knows is a time travel – romance – Historical fiction book. I generally stay away from time travel books (No, I did not like Outlander either), yet this book was unexpectedly enthralling to me. Sometimes picking a random book is the best choice people.
WTWK is a story
about Anne Gallagher, who grew up with her Irish grandfather in America.
Listening the stories about her Homeland- Ireland her whole life, she always
feels she’s missing something in her life. But after the death of her
grandfather she finally gets to visit Ireland. Filled with stories of strange
and mysterious lochs and monsters she explores the beautiful country where her
grandpa grew up. A strange incident leaves Anne to time travel to the early 1920s,
to the period of Irish revolution. And thus, the struggles of living in a different
time period start, where she meets a caring doctor and a small boy who looks
very familiar to Anne.
Every chapter
in this book starts with a poem by W.B. Yeats. Yeats was an Irish poet, and
this book felt like a loving ode to him. The poems set the mood for the entire
chapter and were fitting as if they were meant for this book. If you've never
read his poems before, you'll definitely want to read his works after reading
WTWK.
I heard the
audiobook of this novel and the narration was beautiful, it gave a whole new
life to the story. So, if you love audiobooks you should definitely add this
book to your library.
